We were boarding a plane for Cairo as we heard the news of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti. Over the past seven years we've visited Haiti many times to report on HIV, voodoo, huricanes and malnutrition and it is a place that we've become very fond of. As the death toll exploded we heard of friends, colleagues and story subjects found safe. But we have no way of knowing if many of the people we've met over the years have been lost.
